Beethar Truong
San Diego State University, CA
Beethar says that her family immigrated to the United States in 2013 from Vietnam. “My parents gave up everything in our country to come here because they wanted their children to receive the best education,” she said, adding that “decided to work overtime to make sure my little brother and I can step our foot into college’s doors.”
Still, without Pell Grants, college would be out of reach financially for her family and so would her goal of becoming a professor with a “chance to pay back to the community which supports my way to college,” Beethar says. And doubling the maximum Pell Grant would mean even more: the possibility to graduate debt-free. The “Pell Grant,” Beethar says, “is a key for me to make college seem possible.”
